In the year 2000, the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and the city of Mainz celebrated the 600th birthday of Johannes Gutenberg. Gutenberg invented the suitable method to mechanically duplicate the written language for European writing. For this millennium invention, the Virtual Printery was developed. It familiarizes printing in a fascinating and playful way. Printing as in Gutenberg's time and modern technic are excitingly intertwined. The Virtual Printery conveys the printers craftsmanship on the computer, in a workshop which only exists on-screen: when children play with their toy store, paying is done with the typical hand gesture and the miniature merchandise is paid with invisible money. The printer at the virtual Gutenberg workshop gesticulates similarly when he tries to reach for the letters in the letter case, with the large acryl tweezers: because, the compartments are empty. Printing in the cyber world the letter case remains empty and the fingers clean.
